Crossfit..it hurts so good!

So ever since I stopped playing soccer and lost my long known identity as " the soccer girl", I have tried different things that could bring back that competitive and motivating atmosphere that I loved about soccer. I tried running, that lasted about 4 miles when I realized, I didn't do that even when I played soccer why I would I start it now. Then I took up Hot Yoga which I really enjoyed, but quickly got bored with the same classes over and over again.  But if you ever want to sweat enough to fill a small kiddie pool you should give it a shot. Shortly after my bestie friend ran a marathon and kicked butt and I decided it was time to stop being a lump and do something, love being inspired by E-town.
Luckily for me the Co-ed soccer team I play on is full of Crossfit aficionados, and actually the 13th fittest man in the world who happens to own a Crossfit gym. After two weeks of being a bit to hungover to attend on a Sunday morning my boyfriend and I decided to wake up at 10am and head on over to Crossfit Lindy, in Lindenhurst NY (CROSSFIT LINDY).
We walked into a warehouse type room full of, ropes, gymnastic rings, rowing machines, weights, kettle bells and tires, which caused me to be quickly intimidated. My friends showed us what to do for the warm up and I knew it was going to a rough day when I was gassed and a bit shaky after 20 burpies, 20 supermans and 20 kettle bell swings. Dan (the owner) then set the clock for 12 min and lets us know that our workout was only going to be 12 min of fun. You all might be thinking 12 min of anything can't be that hard and let me tell you, you could not be more wrong. The workout was as follows, 10 ring rows (pull ups for the advanced), 10 hand release pushups, 15 sit-ups and 15 body weight squats. The goal was to complete as many sets of this workout as possible in 12 minutes. I made it around 5x plus 26 reps into my 6th attempt and holy hell was I donezo. Who would of thought 12 min could hurt so good.
On the way home, Paul almost vommed, I had a pounding headache and I could just feel the lactic acid building up in my whole body. Thank god it was a football Sunday and my only responsibility after that was to sit on the coach and eat nachos. After arriving home I hoped in the shower quick before our friends arrived and had to call Paul in halfway through to wash my hair since I could not raise my arms above my head, crossfit problemsss, very opposite of meatball problems.
It is now two days later and people who do not know me must think I am disabled, I can not straighten my arms out fully, sit without collapsing, brush my hair, walk down steps without waddling, or laugh/cough/sneeze with a shooting pain in my abs.
Up until Sunday, October 16, 2011 I thought I was a bad ass college athlete who could handle the majority of any workout. Well after 4 preseason at  D1 school this 12 min workout at crossfit put me in a wheelchair. Even through all this pain there is a smile on my face because for the first time in two years I have found something that gives me that feeling that soccer did. The room is full of positive encouragement and motivation, with a little side of everyone wanting to kick everyone else's ass, which to me equals a perfect mix. This battle is far from over, I will be back in that gym on Wednesday trying to reclaim my dignity, but no promises I'm going to get it back.
